Protein Fires:
Proteins found in meats, eggs, milk, and beans are primarily composed of amino acids
containing nitrogen and sulfur compounds. Many of these protein compounds have the
characteristics of producing pungent and persistent fumes and gases when burned.
It is common for fires to consume proteins and release distinctive odors that pose
a unique challenge for the professional restorer.
The smoke generated by a protein fire consists of an oily residue that, due to its
microscopic particle size, can penetrate deep into porous surfaces. These yellowish/brown
residues are difficult to find and even more difficult to remove. The fire restoration
technicians at PuroClean understand the nature of this problem. We know where to
find the odor sites, as well as how to remove them. Wet cleaning techniques and
solutions are often employed, as well as removing cabinets and appliances. The use
of Ozone gas to chemically neutralize the odor may be required to successfully remedy
these difficult odors.
Puffbacks:
What is a Puffback?
A Puffback is the accidental discharge of soot into your home due from a malfunction
in your heating system. They can occur with oil or gas furnaces, forced air or hot
water baseboard heat. The soot is comprised of tiny particles of the incomplete
combustion (PIC’s) of the heating fuel and is usually an oily, black residue. Due
to the small particle size, soot is often carried throughout the living space on
normal convection currents and is deposited on all interior surfaces, insides of
cabinets, on the surface and beneath carpets, furniture, and contents.
Our Restoration Technicians will perform a thorough inspection and formulate a service
plan to completely remove the soot from the structure and contents, professionally
clean the carpet and upholstery, and return your home to its pre-loss condition.
